Over the past 4 years we have run big public art projects gaining Grants from Awards for All Lottery Fund, Gatwick Trust and Horsham District Council Community Fund. We worked with over 200 members of the public last year in the Forum and at Amberley. We have attracted consistently good coverage in the local press and on radio. This year we are running our most exciting and possibly most photogenic project to date.
The Project
Six 2 by 4 Artists will work with the public on art workshops in Horsham and the District under the theme of Illuminations for the National Big Draw in October. 6 workshops will be with specific groups and one will be free to the public and open to anyone to drop in and participate. This will be held in the Park Barn 1pm – 5pm on 14 th October.
The artists will go on to develop the resulting art works in a most innovative way by creating towers. These towers will be lit from the inside and illuminate the linear elements and their structures. There will be a big lighting up event in Horsham at the Capitol on Sunday 29 th at 6pm timed to be a finale to half term week, the Funfair weekend and the 2 by 4 exhibition in the Capitol Gallery (20 th September – 1 st November). The towers will be very visible from the road at night as well as from inside the building so enjoyed by members of the public who are not necessarily going to visit a theatre or gallery. During our exhibition of 2 by 4 project work in the gallery we will have an area to show images of the towers in progress throughout the weeks leading up to the event.
Sponsorship
We already have core support from Horsham District Council and sponsorship from the Linen Shop and Audio Production Services. Sussex Lighting have agreed to donate the lighting Staples will donate all photo paper and stationery. We have a need of further sponsors for materials, publicity, and room hire. We would like to make this up from local companies with contributions of £300 - £500 or appropriate materials.
What we can offer
In return for support you would have your logo/name on all press releases, flyers, at the workshops, on our new website Big Draw page and at the exhibition in the Capitol. You will receive a report and images at the close of the project.
