About me
I come from a background of craft and technology. I graduated with an HND in Mechanical Engineering specialising in production and design, and made clothes and hats in my leisure time. I started making silver jewellery in 1994 as a hobby and after 15 years working in industry as a designer I changed career direction. A glass beadmaking starter course taken in March 2002 drew me into the amazing and exciting world of hot glass and I now design and make my own glass beads to incorporate into my range of jewellery, and to sell at bead fairs in the U.K. My progression into working with glass comes naturally after my love of glass beads and gemstones, making silver jewellery for several years and a long lasting passion for colour.
I am constantly inspired by the sea, and by the rich array of colours, textures and patterns in nature. I find the rugged Cornish coast particularly inspiring especially the quality of light seen around St. Ives. My popular Porthmeor series of beads is inspired by the view of the Atlantic Ocean from the Tate Gallery St. Ives.
I use the finest Venetian, German and American glass to make my beads that I then pair with sterling silver to create my range of contemporary clean jewellery designs.
I teach glass beadmaking to beginners and intermediate students. Details of my courses can be found on my website.
