Janine has a BA (hons) in Fine Art from the University of Northumberland, an MA in Public Art from Chelsea School of Art, London, She is a professional member of the Royal British Society of Sculptors.
Janine Creaye is primarily a wood and stone carver. The majority of her work is for public places with permanent works installed in Guildford town centre, Surrey, Tilgate Park in Crawley, Buchan Country Park and Horsham Park in West Sussex as well as private gardens in London and Smallfield, Surrey.
She exhibits smaller works in Galleries which have included Cadogan in Knightsbridge, Beaux Arts in Bath, Alpha House in Sherborne, Dorset and currently in Portico,
Riverhead, Kent.
She undertakes community art project work in schools and public venues like museums and Country Parks, where she works with people to create both temporary displays or more permanent sculpture. She has co-ordinated larger community art projects for
2 by 4 Artists 3 times, which have involved both outreach workshops as well as public open events. These have been funded by Lottery money on 2 occasions.
Janine intends the work to operate at different levels, to have a strong overall image but also undercurrents of something that delves into a deeper more instinctive world.
She sometimes uses mythology or humour to play a part in engaging peoples' attention.
Sense of place and how spaces are used are very important to her in the outdoor public sculptures. The light and setting are critical even when positioning works in the garden for Open Studios'
