A native of New York, Edith received a BA in Fine Art and Art Education from Long Island University. She then went on to study illustration and graphic design at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan. Hankering for the West Coast of America, Edith travelled to Los Angeles where she continued study at California State University, learning welding and metal forging, weaving, leather crafting and quilting.
Focusing on functional objects, Edith began to design unusual cushions, throws and wall hangings – all usable, but imbued with primitive tension. These pieces, which incorporated hand-painted hessian fabrics and the use of materials such as wood, shell, glass and beads, were an important evolutionary step to her present work. |
